Close Quarters Martial Arts

One of the greatest misconceptions of close-quarters martial arts is that it requires strength, speed, and the ability to withstand brutal punishment to be effective. However, despite what we see in the UFC, close range fighting is built on the same foundation as all other martial arts -- that of time, distance, proportion, and geometry. This class will examine the application of these principles through grappling, striking and kicking, and knife combat, with an emphasis on understanding the "connecting tissue" between the methods. Students can expect to leave the class with an academic understanding the fountational material, and a basic, practical toolkit that will allow them to study and build their skills on their own. Students of all skill levels are welcome, and no special equipment is needed.
