French Theory and Practice as Applied to Foil, Dagger, and Bayonet

The French school of fencing founded in the mid 17th century has been a uniform codified system of fencing since its inception. By the end of the 19th century it was the most widely followed school of fencing in the world. Its tenets were so clear and adaptable to any weapon that it was requisite training for the French military to learn the use of the foil. The foil as the training tool for this school of fencing provided the best possible means to acquire the knowledge of the art and science of fencing. Beginning with foil training, this workshop/class will explore the application of this technical background and demonstrate how it is adapted to the dagger and bayonet fencing.

Equipment:
  • Bayonet trainer
Note: Where can I get a bayonet trainer? Some sources are: WoodenBayonet.com (Go figure, huh?) Purpleheart Armoury
  • French foil
  • Dagger
  • Fencing jacket
  • Fencing mask
  • Leather gloves
  • Groin/Breast protection (men/women)
